This 'free theatre' was founded in Barcelona in 1976 by a group of professionals in the independent theatre movement. Its productions are text-based, whether updated classics or more contemporary creations. It alternates music, dance and theatre in its programming. Some important celebrities have been in charge of the theatre, such as Fabia Puigserver and Lluis Pasqual. It has come to symbolise Catalan Culture, and is now located at the Town of the Theatre in Barcelona. Its international credentials are proved by its being one of the first members of L'Union des Théâtres de l'Europe.
