This mapping brings together approximately seventy artistic and cultural facilities involved in European and international cross-border exchanges and intercultural projects.
The research was carried out by the French National Observatory of Cultural Policies (Observatoire des Politiques Culturelles) in consultation with many partners in the regions of France.
The organisations presented here are very diverse — sometimes real institutions, sometimes less structured ones, most of them corresponding to the designation “NGO”. One sees a large number of festivals, a reflection of the important role festivals play in promoting international exchanges in France. Their number also attests to the diversity and growing vitality of the different approaches in Europe.
This survey does not set out to rate, rank or classify the organisations concerned, but instead to provide a general idea of the French artistic and cultural landscape. Many other structures, large and small, deserve to appear here. This mapping can be expanded in the nature of a work in progress and is a clear call for input from the many organisations immersed in intercultural dialogue.
