The TBM is a unique body, with active branches in all regional centres, whose main activity is the promotion of the Belarusian language, national culture, cultural heritage and history. Along with various cultural, educational and research projects at a national level, the TBM runs monitoring programmes devoted to problems of contemporary Belarusian language and its use. It was an initiator of the programme to codify and standardise the Belarusian language.
