An international circus event that offers circus art, street theatre and multidisciplinary performances in one city for a period of nine to twelve months. It aims to open up new directions in creative art and urbanism and to trigger the audience’s curiosity for contemporary creations and new technologies.
The 2010 World Circus event took place in Geneva, Switzerland, and lasted for 365 days. Nearly one million spectators visited 450 events, including concert and theatrical performances, exhibitions and film screenings. Performers from across the world took part in the event, which was produced in collaboration with local theatres, circus schools, associations and cultural centres, with support from public and private funding partners.
The event was widely promoted at a national level by Swiss Railways - a locomotive was redecorated as a clown, and a special collection stamp was issued by the Swiss Post.
The next World Circus event will take place in 2015.
