The Creative Commons (CC) is a global movement devoted to legally expanding the range of creative work available for others to build upon and share. Their approach is to use private rights to create public goods. To this end, they have created several copyright licenses known as Creative Commons Licenses which have been inspired by the free software and open-source movements. These licenses offer creators a way to protect their works while encouraging certain uses of them by declaring "some rights reserved." The intention is to avoid the problems current copyright laws create for the sharing of information.
