At a certain point we realize that we live islolated from others. We can comprehend the existence of those that we are not, that others are present and that there is more in the beyond than what we perceive or imagine. This loss of contact between human beings is revealed when the concept of the other takes hold of us. With "el blanco perfecto" Miguel Rivas draws our attention towards our own relationships with others, with what we are not and yet without it as complement we could never feel whole.
Through the paintings, the installations and the videoart, Rivas examines his relationship with the feminine. He scrutinizes the social artificiality with which men see women and the impact that the deterioration of the feminine has on himself. This search expands towards discrimination and exclusion, a historical dilema of the mestizo culture that has yet to define the boundries of its own identity from the identities that it originated from.
Miguel Rivas is a native of Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, where he currently resides. Rivas is a caribbean artist that brings an innovative artistic proposal from the new world. Rivas has been educated as architect but that as a plastics artist has worked with the genres of painting, collage, sculpture, drawing, installations and videoart and whose works have been presented in various solo and collective exhibitions. "el blanco perfecto" is Riva's third solo exhibition in Amsterdam.
