The 7th Euro-American Campus on Cultural Cooperation will take place from 30 November to 3 December in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria (Spain) right in the Atlantic Ocean just in between both continents and quite close to Africa too.

The Campus is a residential meeting between those whose projects and organisations belong to the field of culture and international cooperation. This environment is meant to allow boundless interaction and strengthening of relationships between both worlds.

This scheme has been tested successfully before, in different cities in both continents as the upcomming event is part of cooperation process initiated in Barcelona, Spain in 2000; and followed up by Cartagena de Indias, Colombia in 2001; Sevilla, Spain in 2003; Salvador de Bahia, Brasil in 2005; Almada, Portugal in 2007 and Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2009. You may get acquainted with the diversity of issues under discussion by reading the myriad of communications presented in the previous campus HERE.

The Euro-American Campus has turned throughout these years into a privileged space for mutual understanding among cultural sector professionals within the Euro-American space, contributing to the implementation of shared experiences. The objective of the current Campus comprises the strengthening of these multilateral links while promoting innovation.

The main activities of the Campus include reflections on the basis of presentations made by professionals, creating a space of exchange between agents and cultural networks and encouraging debate on the cultural sector. In Las Palmas, further to the regular participation of European and Latin American professionals, the event will for the first time count with projects and initiatives from Africa.

The general theme of this 7th edition is “Culture, Cooperation and Local Development”, with a main focus on cultural practice and the promotion of a clearer and deeper vision of the cultural dimension of development at local level. Introduced by Eduard Miralles, chair of the board of Interarts, during four days the Campus will offer presentations, workshops and round tables, among other activities. Participants will be able to discuss questions such as citizenship-building, networking, cultural heritage as an engine for development, among many others.

This VII Campus is being carried out by Interarts, the Canary Islands Government , the Organization of Iberoamerican States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI) and the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AECID).

The Campus is also supported by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with United Cities and Local Governments (CGLU) - coordinator of the Agenda 21 for Culture and the Network of Iberoamerican Cities for Culture (Interlocal).
