Yuval Amihai Ensemble, a young jazz band from France visits Montenegro from 28 through 30 September.

Schedule of their performances:

-       Podgorica, KIC Budo Tomovic, September 28 at 8 pm

-       Kotor, EvergreenClub, September 29 at 8 pm

-       Cetinje, Royal Theater Zetski Dom, September 30 at 8 pm

Also, the band will conduct a workshop at the Vasa Pavic Art School of Music and Dance in Podgorica on September 28 at 1 PM.  The workshop is free, open for students, teachers, and all music lovers.

The ensemble’s tour is being organized jointly by the Jazz Art Association, the French National Agency for Cultural Cooperation (Culture France), the French Cultural Center in Podgorica, and our performance-venue partners: KIC Budo Tomovic in Podgorica, the Evergreen Club in Kotor, and the Royal Theater Zetski Dom in Cetinje.

The Yuval Amihai Ensemble is a quintet founded in Paris in 2007 by Israeli guitarist/composer Yuval Amihai. His compositions and arrangements display a wide range of musical influences from both western and oriental cultures, explored through jazz idioms.  The cultural diversity of the band’s musicians and the uncommon instrumentation contribute to the unique sound of the quintet, which is comprised of two saxophones, guitar, double bass, and drums.

The Yuval Amihai Ensemble is the winner of several prizes at the 32nd National Jazz Competition of La Defense Jazz Festival 2009 — Grand Prize in group category, First Prize for composition, and Third Prize for instrumentalist (awarded to saxophonist Damien Fleau).  In 2008 the band won the Saint-Germain-des-Pres Festival’s jazz competition held in Paris, and in September 2009 it won accolades at the Hoeilaart Jazz International Competition in Belgium.

The ensemble currently features Yuval Amihai (guitarist and composer), Damien Fleau and Etienne Bouyer (saxophones), Olivier Degabriele (double bass), and Gauthier Garrigue (drums).

Come enjoy this wonderful music and don’t forget to invite your friends!
