I pushed the Volunteer Department blog today! Anyone reading this may not know at all what I'm talking about because I haven't mentioned anything about this up to this point, and it's only available to four people right now, but this is the first step in generating the orientation and training I am working on for the explOratorium, so it's good to have going now. Currently there is no proprietary information on it, just links and orientation to Web 2.o sites that can facilitate department organization and maintenance. Eric at UO will be happy to know that I have put a huge emphasis on Diigo as a free-choice learning tool that gives volunteers and users access to quick and easy resources in several relevant categories. Also, taking a page from JSMA, I have initiated a Wikispace to possibly incorporate formal department policy tools and procedures for distribution. Right now all these sites and accounts are publicly available (although I won't link them here until I have approval from my supervisor), but we do maintain the option to make them all private (such as the blog is now). So I think overall, not bad for the first 6 days. As good a start as any!
