« SOS-tainable horizons » is the topic of the fifth edition of the Urban Art Exhibition contest manifestaZOOne, curated by Art.ur association.
The title refers to the need to imagine and support the creation of ecologically sustainable ways of living based on renewable energy, responsible distribution of resources and an overall reevaluation of our social needs.
More than 200 artists and graphics took part to the context.
Ten of them have been selected to been displayed on various advertising billboards within the cities of Cuneo, Bra and Mondovì, during the international literature festival “Scrittorincittà”, partner of the event.
The intention of the public art project is to promote communication of socially sensitive issues in the form of large billboards, commenting in a direct and often ironic way on the theme of the exhibition. Typically utilized for commercial advertising, the billboard will instead become a space for reflection where the contest message is inserted into in the daily lives of city citizens.
The award ceremony will coincide with the seminar “SOS-tainable horizons, which kind of horizons in a changing society?”, curated by Art.ur association and Nuto Revelli Foundation of Cuneo. There will be lectures by Vanda Bonardo, President of Legambiente Piemonte and Valle d'Aosta, Piero Gilardi, artist and director of the Parco Arte Vivente of Torino and Marco Revelli, historian and sociologist, president of Nuto Revelli Foundation. Referent will be Roberto Baravalle, writer and art historian. The seminar will take place in the CRC Foundation, in Cuneo, at 5 pm. Free entrance.
The first three selected billboards will be displayed in Cuneo from 7h to 20th November, in Bra from 23rd November to 4th December and in Mondovì from 23rd December to 1st January 2012.
All the selected works including the winning projects will be published in the exhibition catalogue, distributed during the “Scrittorincittà” festival, in Cuneo, from 17th to 20th November.
During the same days, the urban art project “SOS-te” by Stefano Venezia will be shown in the historical center of Cuneo, related to the free sharing and expression of sustainable ideas.
