Lidia Varbanova | 26 Sep 2010, 21:47

Institute of European Studies, Jagiellonian University, Kraków, Poland; ARENA Centre for European Studies, University of Oslo. The project is supported by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway with a grant received from the Norwegian Financial Mechanism and the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism through the Scholarship and Training Fund. The workshop will be organised as part of the wider project ‘Europeanisation and Governance in Central and Eastern Europe'

The major aim of the workshop is to investigate how the new member states seek to consolidate as nation-states in relation to European integration and how state autonomy is at the same time challenged by European integration. Contributions are encouraged related to the following broad topics: (1) Democracy after the enlargement; (2) Society beyond the nation-state; (3) Questioning the east-west divide after enlargement.

The organisers will cover the costs of bursaries and maintenance during the conference. For selected paper-givers from CEE countries the provision of additional support for travel costs is foreseen.
