
CULTURAL EVENTS: 3rd symposium of painting during the period 2 - 9 May 2010 in the Festival of Arts and Sciences, the second edition, Patras, Greece
Between 2 to 9 May 2010, in Patras, Greece held the Third Symposium of Painting in the Art and Science Festival, second edition, Patras, Greece. The festival is organized by Art Zervas Productions International, co-organizers are the University of Patras, Patras University Science Committee and the International Committee of Scientific and Artistic "ISAC”. For this symposium were selected to participate artists from 16 countries: Bangladesh, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Indonesia, Iraq, Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Romania, Serbia and Turkey, artists actually being present from 14 countries (except Bangladesh and Canada).
Artists selected by the organizers to represent Romania and who were present at the symposium are the following painters: ATANASIU Ion Delamare, CUBASSA Edouard, CUBASSA Minerva, FLORESCU Irina, GHEORGHIU Claudiu Victor, LEFTER Cristina, PAPUC Alexandru, PASCU Nelu, PEIA Floarea, PERCA Mihai, PERSU Emilia, UDREA Catalin.
Inauguration of painting Symposium took place on May 9, 2010, 19 pm to Vrahneika, suburb of Patras, and place where art works were created during May 2 to 9 2010, too.Besides artists and a large audience, were present at the opening ceremony the Ambassadors of Bangladesh, Latvia and Serbia, the Romanian embassy's cultural affairs in Athens, Mr. STEFAN NICOLAE, Secretary of State for Culture Egipt. They argued speeches with along Vrahneika mayor, vice-rector of the University of Patras, Mr. Dimitris DOUGENIS-University as co-organizer of the Festival and Mr. Panagiotis MILT.ZERVAS, curator and artistic director of Festival of Patras.
Patras Festival has several symposiums, scheduled to take place during the year mainly 2010.The THEME of the Festival is "Pluralism and Difference" and the symposium from May 2 to 9 had the optional theme "Eros in art." The Art Festival of Patras includes painting symposium preceding the month of May 2010, and exhibitions in June, in October and in December 2010, scientific symposium and symposium for teachers of painting in the Art Academies and Universities in August.The participants of these symposiums were selected for some 50 world countries.
The works created during the 2010 Festival will be exposed in the various European galleries and will be in a catalog published by the University of Patras.
The artist Claudiu Victor GHEORGHIU painted during the symposium icon "ST.APOSTLE ANDREW, patron of ROMANIA ”, tempera on wood, 30x20 cm, trying to make as a bridge between Romania and Greece, knowing that the patron of Patras and Romania has received the crown of martyrdom, being crucified upside down in Patras, where his holy relics are on an X-shaped cross, and that the Orthodox Holy Synod of ROMANIA decided in May 1995 that the name ST.APOSTLE ANDREW be registered in the church calendar with the Red Cross and in 1997 proclaimed "patron of Romania. Also, the icon "ST.APOSTLE ANDREW ,the First called, patron of ROMANIA, commits are crucified in Patras”, tempera on wood, 31.5 x24, 5 cm , will be part soon of the Zervas collection .
