Researcher in urban and media studies, initiator of urban interventions and events, lecturer.
I'm a researcher at Laboratory for Critical Urbanism (European Humanities University) and a co-founder of creative group "Laimikis.lt" that brings together young architects, researchers and photographers, who develop scenarios for creative revitalization of public space, document street style, and arrange urban games.
Both as a member of the creative group and as a researcher I deal with the problem of deactivated public spaces in Lithuanian cities. My tactic of revitalization of public spaces includes analysis of daily routes and "choreography", grounded in the particular place, exploration of emotional scape of the place and collaboration with local communities in developing scenarios of alternative use of the place.
I took part in arranging alternative city guide "Naked Vilnius" (2oo7), initiated series of urban games and interventions in Lithuanian cities and abroad, took part in collective exhibitions in Minsk, Berlin, Vilnius, Paris.
Some of the initiated urban games have already turned into international movements. One of them is "Bubble the City" ("Burbuliatorius") event, which takes place every second Monday in summer in more that 20 European cities at the same time. It is a regular event, which aims to encourage citizens to explore the potential of public spaces.
The other project, which has been used as effective tool of revitalization of public space is installation "Street blog. Web 0". The concept was developed by my creative group and was successfully launched in Vilnius, Kaunas and Stirling (Scotland).
More activities can be found at collective blog http://laimikis.lt , which is dedicated to street style and urban interventions.
