2010 Global Development Awards and Medals Competition

The Global Development Network (GDN) annual contest is one of the biggest competition awards in the field of development research. It is now calling for submissions.
The competition -funded by the Government of Japan; Luxembourg Ministry of Finance and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs- offers cash prizes and travel expenses to finalists to present their research/proposals at GDN’s next conference in Prague in January 2010.

There are three thematic strands:

- Globalization, Regulation and Development
- International Migration: Crossing Borders, Changing Lives?
- Regional Integration- Convergence Big Time, or, an Opportunity Wasted?

And three award categories:

- Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development: For new research proposals that add a unique dimension to research on any of the proposed themes.
( First and second prizes: US $30,000; US $5,000 )
- Medals for Research on Development: For excellent completed research papers on any of the proposed themes.
( First and second prizes: US $10,000; US $5,000 )
- Japanese Award for the Most Innovative Development Project: For on-going development projects that have given the maximum benefit to the local communities and need further financial assistance.
( First and second prizes: US $30,000; US$ 5,000 )

Eligibility: Researchers and NGOs who are residents in developing and transition countries or temporarily based in a developed country for not more than five years.

Deadline: August 24, 2009 for development project;
September 30, 2009 for research proposals/papers.
