Started in 1980 with the annual photographic show “Encontros de Fotografia”. CAV opened a Visual Arts Centre in Coimbra in 2003, which promotes new artists, offers artists' studios and a library for research as well as an educational programme throughout the year. The annual photographic show is the organisation's flagship event, showcasing work by contemporary national and international artists. CAV also publishes bilingual catalogues.
