In her contribution to the Art for Social Change Conference 2001(Budapest), Lidia Varbanova addresses three points: how the arts and culture contribute to social change; problems and failures of networking including funding, sustainability and competition; and how to use networks for fundraising purposes. This articles concludes with an overview of the newly introduced Arts and Culture Network Programme of the Open Society Institute which aims at providing support for long term projects that "cross borders" and promote cultural cooperation and dialogue.
