Intercultural Dialogue in Europe - Eurobarometer Flash 217

Verfasser: Cristina Farinha - Datum: 18 apr 2008, 15:58

A survey commissioned by the European Commission's Directorate General for Education and Culture before the 2008 launch of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.

A face-to-face and telephone survey asked European citizens to report their patterns of interaction with people of different cultural backgrounds, as well as enquiring about their general attitude towards cultural diversity and the upcoming events of the Year of Intercultural Dialogue. Revealing that day-to-day interaction among people of different cultures is a reality in Europe (65%), the survey also showed that many EU citizens believe people with a different background (ethnic, religious or national) enrich the cultural life of their country (49%). Even more people consider intercultural dialogue beneficial (83%), although for many carrying on the cultural traditions is equally important. As well as a general survey summary (see attached), there is also information available on each country. See also other publications and surveys conducted by Eurobarometer.
