The Foundation supports political education both within Germany and abroad, promoting democratic involvement, socio-political activism, and cross-cultural understanding. The Foundation also provides support for art and culture, science and research, and developmental co-operation. Its activities are guided by the fundamental political values of ecology, democracy, solidarity, and non-violence. The Heinrich Böll Foundation's scholarship programme awards 80 to 100 scholarships each year to highly qualified German and foreign under/postgraduate and PhD students of all academic fields. It has offices in Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America that support projects related to the policy of the Foundation.
