SEAS is a multilateral, cross-sectoral, trans-border collaboration - a pan-European, interdisciplinary arts platform which weaves together experiences and expressions from different European regions and coasts, with the aim of supporting the creative re-invention of port cities and post-industrial spaces by bringing together artists, advisers and cultural operators.
The first framework was SEAS//Baltikum-Adriatico (2003-2005). This resulted in the realisation of 12 new artworks in various genres, commissioned by Intercult and with16 co-producer/host organisations.

Black/North SEAS (2006-2008) applies existing methodology and follows an inter-disciplinary approach, moving from exploration and research to production and distribution.
The focus is on Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Georgia and Turkey (Black Sea) and Norway, Denmark, Sweden, The Netherlands, UK, etc. (North Sea).
A mixed pair or group of artists is invited to prepare and realise 10-15 'dates' in harbour cities of both seas, exploring the sites together, imagining artworks/performances which are at the same time site-specific and tourable. The results of these dates are presented to the SEAS platform and a decision taken on co-productions to be commissioned.
The idea is to introduce a mentor to the process who will act as facilitator for the artists during the research and discovery phase. The mentor can be an architect, an experienced producer, a historian or someone with knowledge of a particular place, country or discipline. He or she should have no financial or artistic input in the co-production.
